Hungry Ouroboros
“Breezeblocks” by alt-J played continually throughout the creation of this work
This piece emerged from my emotional fixation on the lead singer’s voice as he explores the darkness that can exist within obsessive thoughts, emotions, and ultimately love. The references to Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak brought to mind imagery of being consumed whole emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of the ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, and my hand-drawn animation grew from the concept of devouring something completely while somehow continuing to live on through it. The cycle of abuse (i.e., the eaten becoming the eater) continues to fascinate me and be a topic I explore within my art.
