Tribute to Kurt
“Lithium” by Nirvana played continually throughout the creation of this work
This work was inspired by Kurt Cobain and the tension between dependence, destruction, honesty, and connection. The essence of what powers us is often difficult to define — messy, contradictory, and deeply human — yet powerful when approached honestly.
We live within systems of dependence, both nourishing and harmful: dependence on people, medicine, food, money, attention, and meaning itself. We often speak about the food chain and our place at the top, but I find myself more interested in the circle of life and the fragile balance and interconnectedness that exists between all living things.
Using Kurt Cobain as the central figure within the work, I wanted to communicate emotional static, fragmentation, and interference through the layered green tones and visual noise embedded throughout the piece.
